Trump's Organization Attempted to Hire Almost 200 Workers on Work Permits in 2025
The former president’s corporate entity accelerated its recruitment of overseas employees on temporary visas this period, while his administration was placing obstacles for other businesses attempting to do the same, a report released Thursday stated.
According to data from the US Department of Labor, the business aimed to hire at least 184 overseas employees in 2025 for temporary positions at the former president’s Mar-a-Lago resort, two golf clubs and his Virginia winery.
The quantity of applications for H-2A and H-2B visas covering workers including servers, clerks, housekeepers, kitchen staff and agricultural laborers was the record filed by the organization, and up from over 120 in 2021, when his presidency concluded.
It was also the fifth instance in 10 years that Trump had attempted to hire more than 100 overseas workers for temporary positions at Mar-a-Lago, based on labor statistics.
The disclosure coincides with a tightening on immigration laws by his government that has involved the implementation of a $100,000 fee on skilled worker visas; increased review of the actions of the 55 million people who already hold American work permits; and tighter regulations for foreign students and reporters.
Overall, the Trump Organization sought to employ over 560 foreign laborers over the period Trump has been in the presidency, from 2017 to 2021 and during the upcoming year.
Notably, the former president was criticized by some in the Republican party this week for remarks justifying the necessity for foreign workers when a company was unable to find people with “specific talents” to occupy particular roles.
“You cannot just say a country is entering, going to invest billions to construct a facility, and going to take people off an unemployment line who have been unemployed in five years, and they’re going to start producing their missiles. It doesn’t work that effectively,” he stated to a host after it was implied that overseas employees lower the pay of US workers.
The administration declined a request for response, and the Trump Organization did not provide an answer to an request for information.
